Acknowledgement & Appreciation of First Nations

In honor of the land on which we live, Treaty Six territory: the home of Metis Peoples and other First Nations, including Nehiyaw (Cree), Denesuline (Dene), Nakota Sioux (Stoney), Anishinaabe (Saulteaux) and Niitsitapi (Blackfoot).

Originally named Amiskwaciy Waskahikan [a-mis-kwa-CHEE wah-SKAY-gun] on Turtle Island, this is Edmonton.

There is a rich background of wisdom from the First Peoples who lived here before us, and it behooves us to learn about, reflect on, embrace and honor the Indigenous communities of today as well as their ancestors.
